CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT
Meeting: November 1, 2022
Subject
Consider authorizing the City Manager to execute a Cost Share Agreement with the City of Saratoga for pavement sealing on Prospect Road between De Anza Boulevard and Stelling Road.
Recommended Action
Authorize the City Manager to execute a Cost Share Agreement with the City of Saratoga for pavement sealing on Prospect Road between De Anza Boulevard and Stelling Road.
Discussion
The City of Cupertino and the City of Saratoga share maintenance responsibilities for Prospect Road between De Anza Boulevard and Stelling Road as the City boundary lies along the centerline of the road. Both cities desire to place a rubberized cape seal on Prospect Road to improve road quality. The cape seal will be followed by replacement of traffic striping and legends. Stripping enhancements, such as high visibility green bike lane markings and bike buffers would also be added to improve bike safety in the area.
Placement of the rubberized cape seal on Prospect Road was included within the scope of work under the 2022 Pavement Maintenance Phase 2 contract authorized by Council on October 4. The Cost Share Agreement was negotiated based on estimated quantities for work on Prospect Road and actual contract unit costs to complete work. Under the Agreement, Saratoga will be required to reimburse the City of Cupertino for 50% of costs. The Agreement allows for a 10% construction contingency as well as a 10% markup for project administration. Execution of the Cost Share Agreement will result in Saratoga reimbursing the City up to $165,000 upon completion of work.
