Event Date, Title, and Description:
10/11/23: As a member of the Santa Clara County Library District JPA, I attended the library finance committee meeting. Donations received from the various Friends the Library groups were noted and accepted. The library staff presented the Fiscal Year 2022‐23 year‐end fiscal report and pointed out that while the JPA had significant reserves, there was uncertainty pertaining to ERAF funding in view of budget shortfalls projected at the State level.
10/1123:
In my capacity as member of the Silicon Valley Clean Energy Board, I attended the monthly directors meeting, and acknowledged the Showcase Award recipient from Cupertino.
10/12/23: I attended a prep session presented by Planning Department staff on Blackberry Farm Golf Course. Staff provided a history of previous council actions, community input, results of the public survey and the current status of the golf course.
10/14/23:
Enjoyed attending the 20th annual Diwali Festival at Memorial Festival – a fun‐ filled community event with artists, community non‐profits and city vendors participating.
Several elected officials attended, including US Rep Ro Khanna, councilmembers from neighboring cities, and school board members. Congratulations to the Chamber of Commerce for hosting yet another successful community event.
10/15/23:
Spoke to children of 5th grade Cub Scouts and den leaders about the role of City Council members in the life of a City. The boys and girls showed curiosity and enthusiasm and provided great ideas to help school kids, such as heated public swimming pools!
2 10/15/23: I attended the annual Walk‐Bike End of Summer Barbecue – a relaxed evening among walking and biking enthusiasts.
10/19/23:
Attended the Public Safety Forum at the Quinlan Center where local and regional public safety officials made presentations on local crime, disaster preparedness, volunteer opportunities and cybersecurity issues.
10/19/23:
Attended the Fall Jazz Fundraiser for the Cupertino Historical Museum at the Cupertino Hotel.
10/22/23: Celebrated the California Acupuncture Day and, on behalf of the city, presented a proclamation that recognized the date when acupuncture was legalized in California, and the significance of acupuncture as an important element of an integrated healthcare approach.
10/23/23:
Attended a prep session presented by City Staff on the Housing Element.
10/23/23: Attended the Audit Committee meeting at which several informational items were presented: OPEB and Pension Section 115 Trust Performance Report; Treasurer’s Investment Report for the quarter ended September 30,2023; the Internal Audit and Fraud, Waste and Abuse program update; Budget format review; and the Audit Committee 2024 schedule and work plan.
10/26/23: Attended the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) JPA Board Meeting where the year‐end service report was presented and discussed. Among the highlights:
SCCLD is ranked #2 in the nation for libraries in its specific category.
10/28/23: Attended the Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute (APALI) Fall Lunch Forum, hosted by Michael Chang and attended by local and regional elected officials. The challenge that homelessness presents was discussed from various perspectives.
