Recommended Action
Consider receiving staff responses to questions received from Councilmembers during Proposed Budget Study Session.
Background:
Staff’s responses to questions received from councilmembers are shown in italics.
Q1: I am confused as to the new projects only lists three projects, and project numbers 12-16, & 20 are new projects that was just proposed. Why are they listed under ongoing projects? Can we correct the new projects total? (Councilmember Chao) Staff response: The City Work Program projects shown in the FY 2024-25 Proposed Budget are organized based on funding availability. Projects 17, 18, and 19, are the only projects that require additional funding. An updated table to clarify this will be included as an attachment to the Staff Report for the June 4 City Council meeting.
Q2: Can staff explain how the special projects will be worked into the budget because the special projects page include items from the previous years. If they do get added on at Q1, will we have revenue that will go along with it? More specifically the carryovers in attachment C within the Q3 update. (Councilmember Moore) Staff response: For Special Projects that are not completed within the fiscal year, their appropriations are carried over to the next fiscal year as part of the City’s year-end close process. Any projects with a dedicated revenue source other than the General Fund, for example, grants would carryover both the appropriation and revenue. Staff will update the carryover attachment provided in the quarterly reports to reflect dedicated revenue sources where applicable along with appropriations. 2
