WHEREAS, April 1st marks Odisha Day (Utkal Divas), commemorating the formation of Odisha as a separate state in 1936, making it the first Indian state formed on the basis of language; and
WHEREAS, The City of Cupertino and the City of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, have established a vibrant and productive Sister City relationship, fostering cultural understanding, educational exchange, and economic cooperation; and WHEREAS, The Cupertino-Bhubaneswar Sister City Organization has worked tirelessly to strengthen the bonds between our communities through numerous cultural arts events, educational programs, and collaborative initiatives; and WHEREAS, This organization has successfully promoted awareness of Odisha's rich cultural heritage, including its classical dance forms, architectural marvels, musical arts, artistic traditions, and culinary delights within the Cupertino community; and WHEREAS, Through their dedicated efforts, the Cupertino-Bhubaneswar Sister City Organization has facilitated meaningful exchanges in education, cultural arts, dance & music, technology, and civic engagement, enriching both communities; and
WHEREAS, This organization has created valuable opportunities for citizens of both cities to engage in mutual learning, fostering greater global understanding and cooperation; and
WHEREAS, The cultural diversity that defines both Cupertino and Bhubaneswar represents a shared strength that contributes to innovation, creativity, and community resilience.
THEREFORE, I, Mayor Liang Chao, and the Cupertino City Council do hereby proclaim April 1, 2025 as
Odisha Day
In the City of Cupertino and commend the Cupertino-Bhubaneswar Sister City Organization for their outstanding contributions to our community.
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED, that the City of Cupertino expresses its appreciation to all volunteers and participants who have contributed to the success of the Sister City relationship and encourages all citizens to learn about and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Odisha.
