Proclamation
WHEREAS, The 65th annual National Public Works Week, sponsored by the American Public Works Association, focuses on People, Purpose, and Presence in our community; and
WHEREAS, Public Works professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities, and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and to public health, high quality of life, and well- being of the people of California and the City of Cupertino; and WHEREAS, These infrastructure, facilities, and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of Public Works professionals who are responsible for rebuilding, improving, and protecting our nation’s transportation systems, parks, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential for our residents; and WHEREAS, It is in the public interest for the residents, civic leaders, and children in Cupertino to gain knowledge of and to maintain an ongoing interest and understanding of the importance of Public Works and Public Works programs in their respective
communities; and
WHEREAS, The knowledge, understanding, involvement, and participation of the community greatly enhances the results that can be attained by the qualified and dedicated employees of the City’s Public Works Department.
THEREFORE, I, Mayor Liang Chao, and the Cupertino City Council do hereby proclaim the week of May 18 to 24 as the 65th annual
National Public Works Week
in the City of Cupertino and encourage the community to become familiar with Public Works services, and to recognize the contributions that Public Works employees make to health, safety, comfort, and quality of life in the City of Cupertino.
