Proclamation
WHEREAS, The Cupertino-De Anza Optimist Club founded in 1979, upholds the core values of Optimist International of the transformative power of hope, positive thinking, and action to bring about the best in youth communities; and
WHEREAS, The Cupertino-De Anza Optimist Club actively organizes, hosts, and supports a wide range of events and programs, including the Oratorical and Essay contest for middle and high School students, fundraising at the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, a monthly dinner at the JW House at Kaiser Hospital, the annual Respect for Law event, scholarships for local high schools, the annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast, the annual Rotary Fall Fest, the annual Youth Appreciation Week, the annual Breakfast with Santa, and more; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Cupertino-De Anza Optimist Club will also host a quarterly event, Pond Fest, where they clean the grounds around the pond at McClellan Road and Bubb Road; and
WHEREAS, For nearly 40 years, the Cupertino-De Anza Optimist Club has provided support for an Optimist Volunteers for Youth (OVY) Camp, providing camping experiences for low-income students; and
THEREFORE, I, Mayor Liang Chao, and the Cupertino City Council do hereby recognize the
Cupertino-De Anza Optimist Club
for all their contributions and hard work they put in every year to make their events and programs memorable for the people of our community.
