Wewouldlike to expressourconcernsabouttheongoinglackof directcommunicationbetweenresidentsandthe City, includingtheCity Council, in recentyears.
BeforetheCOVID-19pandemic, it wascommonto seetheMayorandCity Managerwalkingaroundin frontof City Hall, engagingopenlywith residents. TheCity Manageralsomaintainedopenofficehoursalmostdaily, and City Hall wasaccessible — doorswerenotlocked, andtransparencywaspartof theeverydayculture.
While weunderstandthatthepandemicrequiredchanges, thoserestrictionshavelongsinceended. Yet, thelevelof publicaccessandface-to-facecommunicationhasnotreturnedto pre-COVID standards. We'veevenseennews reportsraisingconcernsaboutpublicemployeesholdingmultipleremotejobssimultaneously, whichfurther underminespublictrust.
Mostconcerningis thefactthatsomelong-termresidentshavenothadanopportunityto meetwith city leadership in personfor years. Thisdisconnectdoesnotreflectthevaluesor missionof theCity to serveits communitywith transparency, accountability, andaccessibility.
Werespectfullyaskthatthisissuebetreatedashigh priority — andthatstepsbetakento restoreregular, in-person engagementbetweentheCity’sleadershipandits residents.
Thankyoufor yourattention.
Sincerely,
