People advocating for the ceasefire resolution spoke about the trauma and suffering caused by the genocide, the staggering number of lives lost, mass starvation in Gaza, and the urgent need for free flow of humanitarian aid into the area. Individual lenounced the amount of US funding going to Israel and the increase of anti-Muslim hate in the US noting that a bilateral ceasefire resolution would be a step in the right direction being that this is both a global and local issue.

The following speakers were opposed to passing a resolution calling for a ceasefire and urged the Council not to get involved in international matters which are outside of their purview and to vote "No" on the resolution in two weeks' time. Individuals were opposed to a ceasefire resolution, calling it one- sided and bigoted, citing the increase of antisemitism and fears for safety amongst Zionist members of the Jewish community, and pointing out that Israel is merely defending itself against Hamas. Some speakers stated the numbers of those killed in Gaza have been exaggerated, while others denied the occurrence of a genocide in Gaza. A few speakers expressed support for a resolution that denounces and eliminates Hamas, or one that recognizes the legitimacy of Israel.
