CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Druker called the meeting to order at 8:57 A.M.

Present: Mayor Dave Druker; Deputy Mayor Terry Gaasterland; Councilmembers Tracy Martinez and Dwight Worden; City Manager Ashley Jones; and Assistant City Manager Clem Brown
Absent: Councilmember Dan Quirk
CITY COUNCIL BUSINESS
The Mayor welcomed those in attendance and opened the meeting for public comment. There were no public speakers. There was one member of the public present, but they did not wish to speak.
The facilitator, Sommer Kehrli, Ph.D., with The Centre for Organization Effectiveness, gave an overview of the agenda that included a discussion of the Council’s individual and collective strengths, overview of the City Council – City Manager form of government and the six roles of a governing body, various governance roles in reaching effective partnerships with other agencies, and an open discussion on specific Council items that were informed by pre-retreat interviews. The Council, City Manager, and Assistant City Manager participated in several group exercises using the results of their individual CliftonStrengths assessments with the goal of increasing selfawareness, better understanding what each is bringing to the team, and enhancing performance.
The retreat concluded with an open discussion on several topics including how to streamline City Council meetings to encourage more participation by the public; importance of Councilmembers communicating their questions and concerns about topics to be considered by the Council to the City Manager in advance of the Council meeting; importance of Councilmembers keeping each other informed about their regional and local appointments and interest in using a written report template that could be included in the Council agenda packet; shortening staff presentations when appropriate; and consideration to include more items on the Consent Calendar.
