It is recommended that the City Council discuss a recommendation made by the members of the Arts and Culture Subcommittee to conduct a Planning Workshop on February 24, 2022 and provide direction to staff.
The need for inclusion of all vested and interested stakeholders such as the Downey Art Coalition, Stay Gallery, Downey Rose Float Association, Downey Historical Society, Downey Symphony, Downey Theatre, and Downey Conservancy as well as other interested groups, organizations and individuals is necessary to ensure a successful outcome through a collaborative effort.
In order to provide a structure and methodical approach for conducting the planning workshop, there is a need for an experienced facilitator to manage the session and formulate practical recommendations. Staff has obtained a proposal from Mr. Tomas Benitez to provide the referenced services which is articulated in his proposal (Attachment 1). The cost of Mr. Benitez's services is $3,500.
Additionally, the cost of providing workshop material, refreshments for participants a other related costs is estimated at $500. Therefore, the total cost for the planning workshop is $4,000. 1
