The "Our Neighborhood Voices" initiative seeks to override new State housing laws (S!i 9 and SB 10) by giving is governments the final say over land use decisions. One recent law, S13 9, allows homeowners to build up to four units of housing on lots that previously supported just one home. Another law, SB 10, allows local governments to approve developments with up to 10 units on lots located near transit lines.

This initiative intends to restore local planning input and the ability for cities and its residents to provide input on what is happening next door to their homes and apartments.

Over 100 current and former elected officials from across California, as well as 34 cities have announced their support for the "Our Neighborhood Voices" ballot initiative, which still needs to collect nearly one million valid signatures to qualify for the November 2022 ballot. This initiative has also been endorsed by large groups such as the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), California Contract Cities Association 2nd South Bay Council of Governments.
