SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF WORK FOR RESIDENTIAL STREETS PAVEMENT REHABILITATION - AREA 2, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (CIP) NO. 22-16
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council will consider accepting the work for Residential Streets Pavement Rehabilitation - Area 2, CIP No. 22-16. Further, the Council will consider approving Sequel Contractors’ final construction contract amount of $2,873,244, and authorizing the Public Works Director/City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion with the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office. The Residential Streets Pavement Rehabilitation - Area 2 project has been completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications, and staff recommends that the City Council accept the project as complete.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council:
1.Accept the work for the Residential Streets Pavement Rehabilitation - Area 2, CIP No. 22-16;
2.Approve Sequel Contractors’ final construction contract amount of $2,873,244; and
3.Authorize the Public Works Director/City Engineer to a file a Notice of Completion with the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office.
BACKGROUND
On February 22, 2022, the City Council approved plans (Attachment A) and specifications for the Residential Streets Pavement Rehabilitation - Area 2, CIP No. 22-16, and granted authority to advertise for construction bids. On April 26, 2022, the City Council awarded a construction contract in the amount of $2,897,382 to Sequel Contractors, Inc. On July 18, 2022, work commenced and was completed on June 1, 2023.

ANALYSIS
This project rehabilitated 83 residential street segments with a total length of approximately 40,900 linear feet or 7.75 miles of roadway in Area 2. The project also included the replacement of uplifted or damaged curb and gutter, sidewalk, cross-gutter, and spandrel. In addition, the project included the replacement of curb access ramps in accordance with the latest Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, and the replacement of incidental striping.
In addition, two change orders in the amount of $31,550 were approved for an additional striping subcontractor move-in; and additional utility adjustments. The final construction contract amount was $2,873,244.
The Residential Streets Pavement Rehabilitation - Area 2 project has been completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications and staff recommends that the City Council accept the project as complete.
