EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council will receive and file a presentation on the status update of the Columbia Memorial Space Center 2nd Building Expansion.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council:
Receive and file a presentation on the status update of the Columbia Memorial Space Center 2nd Building Expansion.
BACKGROUND
The Columbia memorial Space Center opened in 2009 and serves as the dedicated site to honor the astronauts lost on the Columbia Memorial Space Shuttle. The Space Center serves as the only space science learning center in the Los Angeles area dedicated to engineering, technology, and science. Visitors learn about Downey's place in the exploration of space flight, while also participating in various classes and workshops. As of today, the Space Center serves approximately 100,000 visitors a year.
The City is currently working on the 2nd building expansion for the Space Center, which will expand programming, exhibits, as well as house the space shuttle mockup, Inspiration.
ANALYSIS
The Executive Director of the Colombia Memorial Space Center will provide a presentation with an update regarding the 2nd Building Expansion project.
