Subject: Athens Gouging Resident. How can a > 14% fees increase be justified.

To the honorable Mayor and City Council Members.

Times are tough for everyone and while it is understandable that business must make a profit, prices for products and services are controlled when there is a competitive market. Not so for city provided services wherein the contracted business has an inherent monopoly. For these businesses, residents rely on City government to keep a check on price increases. Given this, the question becomes .. How can Athens Services justify an obscene > 14% fee increase. The CPI for 2023 is 4.7% and inflation is at 4.9%. How can the city approve this? And, this is not even taking into account the gouging resident get with ridiculous processing fees when their payment is late. The City needs to correct this or perhaps consider alternate service.
