SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF WORK FOR THE MANZANAR AVENUE AND
BERGMAN LANE STREET IMPROVEMENTS, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT (CIP) NO. 24-04
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council will consider accepting the work for the Manzanar Avenue and Bergman Lane Street Improvements Project as shown in the attached Project Location Map (Attachment A). Further, the Council will consider approving Gentry General Engineering Incorporated’s final construction contract amount of $279,540.50 and authorizing the Director of Public Works/City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion with the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office. The Manzanar Avenue and Bergman Lane Street Improvements Project has been completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications, and staff recommends that the City Council accept the project as complete.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council:
1.Accept the work for the Manzanar Avenue and Bergman Lane Street Improvements Project, CIP No. 24-04; and
2.Approve Gentry General Engineering Incorporated’s final construction contract amount of $279,540.50; and
3.Authorize the Director of Public Works/City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion for the project with the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office, indicating the work is complete and has been accepted by the City.
BACKGROUND
On August 22, 2023, the City Council approved plans (Attachment B) and specifications for the Manzanar Avenue and Bergman Lane Street Improvements Project, CIP No. 24- 04, and granted authority to advertise for construction bids. On September 26, 2023, the

City Council awarded a construction contract in the amount of $290,242 to Gentry General Engineering, Incorporated. On October 23, 2023, work commenced and was completed on December 1, 2023.
ANALYSIS
This project constructed block walls, curbs and gutters, and related street improvements to isolate the residential neighborhoods from the adjacent commercial businesses on Manzanar Avenue, south of Telegraph Road, and Bergman Lane, east of Orizaba Avenue. The work included the removal of existing asphalt pavement, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, fences, and landscaping; construction of new block walls, concrete curbs and gutters, sidewalks and slabs, parkway drains, guard rails, and signage, adjustment of utility manhole, and valve box covers to grade and installation of pavement markings. The final construction contract amount was $279,541.
The Manzanar Avenue and Bergman Lane Street Improvements Project has been completed in accordance with the approved pl ans and specifications, and staff recommends that the City Council accept the project as complete.

The final cost of the construction contract is $279,541. The total project cost is $356,511 broken down as follows:
