SUBJECT: COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE FOR 2024
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council will consider approving the Council meeting schedule for Calendar Year 2024.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council:
Approve the meeting schedule as outlined in the attachment.
DISCUSSION
City Council meetings occur on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Annually, the City Council reviews the meeting schedule for the upcoming year to determine if any meetings should be cancelled. In consultation with the Mayor, staff prepared a proposed meeting schedule for Calendar Year 2024. In 2023, the City Council held a summer recess by cancelling the first meeting in July. Many staff and members of the Council as well as residents within the community schedule vacations at this time of the year, and it is helpful to have a known summer recess period. This allows vacations to be more easily coordinated with families without impacting meeting operations. It can also benefit the public as community members might miss a chance to be involved with City business if there is a particular topic of interest. Additionally, Council meetings within 2024 fall on the week of Thanksgiving and on Christmas Eve. In recognition of the holidays and that many travel out of town during these days, it is recommended that these meetings be cancelled as well.
Council meeting schedule: second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m.
Proposed Meeting Cancellation: July 9, 2024 (Summer Recess) November 26, 2024 (Thanksgiving)
December 24, 2024 (Christmas Eve)
