SUBJECT: APPROV AL OF WATER SYSTEM REPAIRS AT LAKEWOOD BOULEVARD AND 5TH STREET
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council will consider approving water system repairs conducted by Williams Pipeline Contractors, Inc. in an amount of $85,769. The water improvements, which occurred at the intersection of Lakewood Boulevard and 5th Street, were necessary to restore water service, subgrade materials, and pavement in the area in response to an emergency water leak which was undermining soil and other subgrade materials in the vicinity of the leak due to the force of the water.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council:
Ratify the emergency purchase order with Williams Pipeline Contractors, Inc. for water system repairs at Lakewood Boulevard and 5th Street in the amount of $85,769.
BACKGROUND
The City’s recycled water system at Lakewood Boulevard and Fifth Street recently developed a water leak that undermined subgrade materials and street paving in the area. During such emergency water leak events, when the extent of repairs is large and/or there is a lack of staff to adequately respond to the site in a timely manner, contractors with past experience working in the City are contacted to determine their availability of crews to perform the work and their proximity to the site. Due to the scope of the work required to restore recycled water service, displaced subgrade, and damaged pavement, the City requested the assistance of Williams Pipeline Contractors, Inc., considering their past experience performing water improvements for the City and their quick response time, to conduct the time-sensitive emergency repair work. The repair work commenced on March 11, 2024 and was completed on March 19, 2024.
