Hey Alfonso:
attached is the video I took 1/30/24 to show the city council per your offer after the first city planners meeting. 2024 ,01 30 15 53 IMG„ 5248.MOV - Googje Drive
Video description:
This video was shot on the day before (1/30) a possible city meeting on 1/31. As I walked to my car at 2:53PM I took the opportunity to take a video of the traffic on Suva by my driveway. As can be seen I pan to the left showing cars backed up going east on Suva from the intersection of Suva and Guatemala to past the bridge. As I pan to the right showing cars coming from 3 directions of the 4 way stop at Suva and Guatemala going west on Suva. This is typical of what I face any day I try to enter/leave my driveway and this traffic jam persists 3-4 hours from after 3PM until before 7PM in the evening and 3-4 hours in the morning.
Apparently the video is too big to attach to this email so I sent it you via google one drive.
Also, I'm a little Ill and don't want to spread any germs. Would it be possible to speak to city council by phone or if that's not possible to send another email with my comments for the city council.
My Phone is:

Dead Downey City Council,
My name is Matt Inouye and I am the Manager of Policy and Community Engagement with The TransLatin@ Coalition. I oppose the Neutral Flag Policy because it shows the city's LGBTQ+ residents that the city is not supportive of queer people - residents who are also taxpayers, community members, and human beings.
Having the pride flag flown is a sign of support and a healthy community. When we show our youth that people can be who they are, it creates a safe environment where kids can grow to be happy and healthy.
We need this symbolic gesture to be shut down immediately.
Item #10 is a deceptive way of banning the pride flag. The community will not support this.
I oppose Item #10.
Best,
i

Flying the LGBTQ flag on public buildings in the City of Downey is not just an act of inclusion, but a powerful statement affirming the rights, dignity, and visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals within our community. By raising this flag, we signal our commitment to equality and acceptance, fostering a sense of belonging among all residents, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Flying the LGBTQ flag is a symbol of solidarity and support for a marginalized community that has long struggled for recognition and equality. It sends a clear message that Downey is a place where diversity is celebrated and where everyone is valued for who they are. This visibility helps combat discrimination and promotes understanding, creating a safer and more inclusive environment for LG BTO+ individuals to live, work, and thrive.
Moreover, flying the LGBTQ flag on public buildings in Downey aligns with the city’s values of respect, tolerance, and social progress. It demonstrates the city’s commitment to upholding the principles of equality and justice for all residents, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. In doing so, we set an example for other communities to follow, inspiring positive change and fostering a culture of acceptance and diversity.
In essence, flying the LGBTQ flag on public buildings in the City of Downey is not just about symbolism; it's about taking a stand for equality, dignity, and human rights. It's about creating a more inclusive and welcoming community where everyone can live authentically and without fear of discrimination. By proudly displaying this flag, we affirm our commitment to building a brighter and more equitable future for all.
Thank you.

Request no condos to installed build and vote against the proposition 33. We are busy on the street, I cannot get out of garage at times. This is ridiculous and uncalled for, please keep Downey beautiful. Lived since 1982 and can see the difference of traffic.
Vote against proposition 33, against 33.

Dear City Leaders,
Flags flown on government property indicate the authority of that government, therefore we citizens recognize the established authority of the USA flag, the California flag, and a city flag. Sometimes cities fly a MIA/POW flag which indicates our human compassion for these members of our Armed Forces and their families.
All other flags, including flags representing a person’s "sexual orientation", are unnecessary and illegitimate for many reasons, and exclude a countless amount of people. Therefore, I urge the City Council to vote for a “government only” flag policy tonight in order to squelch dozens of other groups who might demand that their “personal identity" banner be waved also.
Enough is enough.
Sincerely,
Patti Sharpe

Dear Downey Council members,
I am writing to reQuest that you approve the Neutral Flag Policy tonight.
It is not within the purpose of city government to promote flags such as gay pride. Do we want to be in the position of promoting a lifestyle that is rife with mental and physical harm and distress? Would we fly a flag that promotes drug abuse or other unhealthy behaviors? Younger residents of our city are aware of the flags that are flown. Do we want to encourage behaviors that result in a high suicide rate, broken families or infertility? Sometimes adults choose this path for their life, and that is their personal decision, but we have to consider the best interest of ALL of the residents of the city when we choose which flags to fly.
I earnestly ask you to approve the Neutral Flag policy.
Sincerely,
Bee

Re: Letter of Opposition to Agenda Item 10, Consideration of Neutral Flag Policy – As Introduced
Dear Mayor Trujillo and City Council Members,
I would like to express my opposition to item 10, which would institute a Neutral Flag Policy in the City of Downey. For the past three years, the City's decision to fly the Pride Flag during Pride Month has not only shown strong support for the LGBTQ+ Community but has also elevated Downey's reputation as a leader in this region. This city has become a symbol of inclusivity and openness, not just for its residents but also for its neighbors.
Last year, as Chair of the County Board of Supervisors, I introduced a motion to fly the Pride Flag above all County Buildings during Pride Month. I did this because that rainbow-striped flag has lit pathways for many within the LGBTQ+ Community. It represents hope, safety, and belonging for everyone who has ever been mistreated or marginalized, discriminated against, or attacked for being different. When you consider the many efforts across this nation to defame and vilify the LGBTQ+ Community, it becomes painfully clear that it’s essential that we actively support this community. Those are the values of Downey, and those are the values of LA County.
For the reasons mentioned, I respectfully urge the City Council to oppose item 10 and to continue to fly the Pride Flag in support of the LGBTQ+ Community. Let us uphold the values of Downey and LA County, which include inclusivity, acceptance, and support for all our residents.

Dear Downey City Council–
As a licensed general contractor, I am usually supportive of other good projects here in our community. I live in District 3 and I support this project completely.
I do not see any reason not to approve what appears to be beautifully designed and thought out .

Dear Downey City Council–
I support The Olson Company’s 33 townhome project on Foster Bridge Road being considered tonight. I live here in northwest Downey, District 3 and am certain this will add a lot more value than any inconveniences it may cause in our area. In fact, I’m interested in buying one for a family member I’d like to keep close to my home.
Please do the fair and proper thing tonight by approving this project. I am certain that the applicant and staff have put countless hours in getting it to this point. Let’s not hold it up.
Thank you,

Dear Downey City Council–
I live in District 3 and have followed the proposed project being considered tonight. I am against any subsidies that make certain units non-market rate, but I am in support of this project regardless.
If the city council address the traffic in general in this area, that would be greatly appreciated .

Dear Downey City Council -
I am a resident and homeowner here in Downey’s District 3. 1 am writing a short letter of support for the record on behaLf of the 33-unit townhome project before you this evening.
Even though there is known to be significant traffic in this area, it is not the fault of the developer. I also don’t believe it will cause more adverse traffic than already exists, so I am in support of their proposed project.
On a Larger level, we need to support good projects here in our community, especial19 ones that create more home ownership opportunities. Let’s encourage this developer, and others, to continue to invest in Downey.

p.s. I can provide my address to the city clerk if necessary to verify, but wish that it remain out of the public record.
