Dear citizens of Downey,
As the city continues to grow and evolve, it is important to embrace change and look towards the future. It has come to our attention that there have been discussions about changing the names of certain streets in our city. We understand that change can be difficult, but we must remember that it is ultimately for the betterment of our community.

Some may question why the need for such change, but let us assure you that it is not without purpose. By changing the names of these streets, we are celebrating and highlighting the unique culture and history of Downey. These changes are a step towards progress, towards a brighter future for our city. As our motto states, our future is unlimited.

Let us not shy away from change, but instead embrace it with open arms. Let us work together towards a better and more prosperous Downey. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Public Comment for 6/1 1 City Council Meeting
Dear Downey City Council,
I write you this email to voice my opposition for an extension of city council term limits. The current two four-year term limit is sufficient enough, as it is with our highest form of elected office. If former officials truly want to do something for the city, but their term limits have been reached, they can influence current officials or constituents with their name recognition, the same way we constituents try and influence our officials with our voices. Former officials can also use or raise their own funds to continue or form their own legacy projects, the same way a handful of constituents are made to do, once they leave office. Extended term limits only invites a halt to progress as, in theory, the city’s business is continually conducted by a consistent oligarchy that would have longer periods of time before being voted out. I would also like to use this time to ask Mayor Trujillo to formalize a permanent ceasefire resolution. We have seen the news of ceasefire resolutions being proposed but we need a permanent one that includes the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and an end to illegal occupation of the West Bank. We further understand that the City Council cannot and will not directly end the war passing a ceasefire resolution. We do, however, understand that in doing so, the City Council can influence the federal government to push for a permanent ceasefire as an overwhelming number of cities begin to pass resolutions. The voice for peace will be amplified and harder to ignore.
