Hello Mayor Trujillo and City Council Members,
I am urging you to introduce and pass a Ceasefire Resolution in the City of Downey. This issue is important to people around the world and especially important to me as a member of our community. I stand on the side of humanity and urge the members of the Downey City Council to take on a leadership role in this critical effort.
Despite repeated efforts for a ceasefire resolution by Downey residents, the Downey Mayor and City Council Members have remained silent and have failed to use their political influence to speak out against the genocide taking place in Gaza.
Cities across the country are joining the call for a ceasefire. We call on Downey to align with major cities like Can Francisco, Oakland, Chicago, Atlanta and Detroit and local cities such as Cudahy, Long Beach, Montebello, El Monte, Pasadena, Alhambra, Santa Monica, Pomona and others in their support of a ceasefire. These cities recognize that the war on Gaza affects their residents. In Downey, residents are losing friends and family members and are traumatized by the grisly images they see, all funded by taxpayer dollars that could be better spent in our city.
I am sending this letter today to call on the City of Downey to introduce and pass a resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, safe passage for humanitarian aide into Gaza, and condemning all forms of hateful rhetoric, including antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti -Palestinian discrimination and hate.
The genocide in Gaza has caused immense suffering and loss of life, devastating families in the region and around the world. Children are being bombed and forced to live in the direst of
circumstances imaginable. There is nowhere in Gaza that is safe. The majority of children in Gaza have no food or water, no homes, no schools or access to education. They don't have access to usable bathrooms or washing facilities. Doctors and medical treatment and supplies are beyond reach as disease is spreading. Many have no surviving family members.
What have these children done to deserve this? What choices do they have on how to cope and survive such horrific conditions?
I am asking each of you to make the right choice and stand with humanity. Stand the way you would ask the world to stand if it were your children or the children of Downey facing the same dire circumstances.
The violence must end.
You must represent the people you serve.

In Downey, residents are losing friends and family members and are traumatized by the grisly images they see, all funded by taxpayer dollars that could be better spent in our city.
I am sending this letter today to call on the City of Downey to introduce and pass a resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, safe passage for humanitarian aide into Gaza, and condemning all forms of hateful rhetoric, including antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti -Palestinian discrimination and hate.
The genocide in Gaza has caused immense suffering and loss of life, devastating families in the region and around the world. Children are being bombed and forced to live in the direst of
circumstances imaginable. There is nowhere in Gaza that is safe. The majority of children in Gaza have no food or water, no homes, no schools or access to education. They don't have access to usable bathrooms or washing facilities. Doctors and medical treatment and supplies are beyond reach as disease is spreading. Many have no surviving family members.
What have these children done to deserve this? What choices do they have on how to cope and survive such horrific conditions?
I am asking each of you to make the right choice and stand with humanity. Stand the way you would ask the world to stand if it were your children or the children of Downey facing the same dire circumstances.
The violence must end.

Dear City Council Members & my fellow Downey Community residents and friends, I am a lifelong resident of Downey. I care deeply about our city. But my compassion does not stop at our local city limits.
It's time for Downey City Council to add a ceasefire resolution to the agenda. It's past time, but since we can't go back in time, let's focus on now. It's now time. Other cities around us are passing resolutions and Downey is being left behind - and will be recorded in history as being on the wrong side of this. This isn't a normal "war" or horrific world event. This is mass murder of a population. This is genocide. The people of Gaza do not deserve this hell inflicted upon them. No one on Earth deserves this.
My message has been repeated over and over since the beginning of the year and I have been waiting and waiting for Downey to come around. Please.
This isn't a religious war. This isn't about anti-semitism, though the holocaust is part of the bigger story, it is being used as an excuse to take land and resources away from indigenous people of what is known as The Holy Land. People who had nothing to do with the atrocious Jewish Holocaust. Why are they paying for sins they did not commit? We're getting closer and closer to a whole year of this genocide, funded and fully supported by the United States. This is stain on us. We, as U.S. citizens, are all complicit.
Just in the last week, The International Court of Justice (ICJ) the highest international court, ruled that Israel is an apartheid state and that its military occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and must end. Its border wall is illegal and Israel has been ordered to take it down. The Israeli settlements are illegal.... and yet even today settlers continue to violently force Palestinians out of their homes, their villages - which families have been in for generations, some for thousands of years!

And yet City of Downey's wikipedia page shows that one of our sister cities is Efrat, Israel which is one of the ILLEGAL settlements stolen from Palestinians in the West Bank, Occupied Palestine.
Downey MUST end it's complicity. We must cut ties with Efrat. If they are not our sister city like the City Manager said in one of the council meetings when I brought it up weeks ago, then we need to have this information updated on public websites. We cannot be associated with the illegal occupation of Palestine.

Do you understand the significance? It's where the nazis were tried! I cannot begin to express how profound, how important, how URGENT it is that we ALL stand up against genocide, no matter who it is being committed against and no matter who is the one committing it! Please, I'm urging you ALL. And I'll keep urging you again and again and again. Do your part. Use your position. Use your voice. Stand with Humanity. Call for a ceasefire. Make sure Downey cuts ties with Efrat. We want to know our city council members represent us and stand with us.
