BACKGROUND

On November 28, 2023, the City Council approved plans (Attachment B) and specifications for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Annual Miscellaneous Concrete Repairs (Council District 1), Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and Miscellaneous Improvements (Citywide), Lakewood Boulevard Parkway Improvements and Fire Station No. 1 Parking Lot Concrete Replacement Project, CIP No. 24-01, and granted authority to advertise for construction bids. On February 27, 2024, the City Council awarded a construction contract in the amount of $694,327 to Gentry General Engineering, Incorporated. Construction commenced on March 25, 2024, and the project was completed on July 12, 2024.

ANALYSIS

This project consisted of locations requiring concrete repairs and ADA-related upgrades that needed attention and are shown on the plans in Attachment B. Also included was the third phase of the Lakewood Boulevard Parkway Improvements. This project removed and replaced uplifted or damaged sidewalks, curb and gutter, and ADA-compliant curb access ramps on Lakewood Boulevard between Imperial Highway and Gardendale Street. Furthermore, the Fire Station No. 1 Parking Lot Concrete Replacement Project was included in this project. This project replaced the northerly concrete parking lot at the fire station which included the replacement of the corroded fuel sumps for the underground fuel tanks. This project also removed the existing trees and overgrown vegetation, which uplifted the concrete parking lot, and constructed a new privacy chain link fence along the perimeter of the parking lot. The final construction contract amount was $780,427.

Inclusive of the total cost of work mentioned above, the removal of an existing damaged block wall and construction of a new 6-foot high block wall located at Fire Station No. 1 was approved, resulting in a change order of $98,535. Within the change order, there were additional quantities of striping and signage at Furman Park for an accessible stall.
