SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2025
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council will consider approving the Council meeting schedule for Calendar Year 2025.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council:
Approve the meeting schedule as outlined in the attachment.
BACKGROUND
City Council meetings occur on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Annually, the City Council reviews the meeting schedule for the upcoming Calendar Year to determine if any meetings should be cancelled or adjusted. In consultation with the Mayor, staff prepared a proposed meeting schedule for Calendar Year 2025.
ANALYSIS
In 2024, the City Council held a summer recess by cancelling a meeting in July. Many staff and members of the Council as well as residents within the community schedule vacations at this time of the year, and it is helpful to have a known summer recess period.
This allows vacations to be more easily coordinated with families without impacting meeting operations. It can also benefit the public as community members might also be travelling and miss a chance to be involved with City business if there is a particular topic of interest. The City Council usually tries to coincide the summer recess period with the annual NALEO Conference, which will occur July 22-24, 2025. As a result, the summer recess is proposed by canceling the July 22, 2025 City Council meeting.
Also, there is a unique situation occurring in November of 2025. The first meeting in November falls on November 11, which is the Veterans' Day holiday. As a result, the regularly scheduled meeting of November 11, 2025 is required to be cancelled.

Additionally, the City usually cancels the Council meeting when it occurs the same week as Thanksgiving. Thus, the regularly scheduled meeting for November 25, 2005 is proposed to be cancelled. Following this schedule, there would be no meetings within November. As there is a need to hold at least one meeting in November, a special meeting is proposed to be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 starting at the normal time of 6:30 p.m. to ensure that City business can be conducted during the month.
Additionally, the final Council meeting of 2025 falls on the week of Christmas. In recognition of the holidays and that many travel out of town during this week, it is recommended that this meeting be cancelled as well.
