Connections Family Resource Center exists solely on charitable contributions and foundation grants. The City of Downey along with True Lasting Connections Family Resource Center (TLC) and the Downey Unified School District have collaborated for twelve years to host the TLC 5K, their biggest fundraiser of the year.

Each year, the event grows in popularity and has consistently hosted over 700 runners annually. In addition to community engagement, the event offers City partners and nonprofit organizations the opportunity to be a part of the 5K by participating in the outreach fair component. Partners who are scheduled to participate this year include; PIH Hospital, Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center, Financial Partners, The Rotary Club, Downey Los Amigos Kiwanis, Kiwanis Club of Downey, and the Downey Rose Float Association.

The 5K will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will include use of the trail at Apollo Park, roadways on Rives Avenue, Quill Drive, and Everest St. on the Rancho Los Amigos campus. Staff has received approval from Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center to use Everest St. as part of the route as well as the use of their parking lots for public parking purposes.
