To whom it may concern:

Mel Tillekeratne of the local 501(c)(3) The Shower of Hope is by leaps and bounds the most abusive organizer I've ever worked with. He delights in demeaning people for having intellectual disabilities and engages in extreme emotional abuse. "Sadistic narcissist" is an apt description. Any government agency which contracts with this disturbed bully exposes itself to overwhelming liability to disability -harassment lawsuits and extreme reputational damage. I cannot overstate how horrified and sickened I am by his behavior. He is in dire need of a really good therapist.

Dear Downey City Council and Mayor,
I am writing to express my deep frustration and anger over the lack of action regarding the alarming issue of individuals impersonating federal agents in our community. We have repeatedly voiced our concerns about racial profiling and the potential danger to our community members, yet it seems our cries for help have fallen on deaf ears.

Recently, Huntington Park took decisive action against an imposter pretending to be an ICE agent, demonstrating that it is indeed possible to address these critical safety concerns. They recognized the threat to their residents and acted swiftly to investigate and apprehend the individual. Why has our city not followed suit? We do not ask for interference in federal investigations, but we demand that you investigate these imposters who are terrorizing our community.

Each day that passes without action emboldens these impersonators, leaving our families feeling unsafe and vulnerable. We deserve the same level of protection and proactive measures that neighboring cities are undertaking. Our community cannot wait any longer for you to recognize the urgency of this issue.

It is time to stand up for the people of Downey. Implement the necessary measures to ensure that those claiming to be federal agents are properly vetted. We urge you to take action now and restore our trust in our local government to protect all residents, regardless of their background.

Sincerely,
Marisela Martinez

To Whom It May Concern,
Hello my name is Ashley Edmondson and I am a resident in the city of Downey. I lived in Downey all my life and I absolutely love it. I have always felt safe here. I love the environment and love the fact that everything is so convienently close, I rarely have to leave the city. Although there is one reason I am reaching out. The traffic is always flowing through the city and it's even more hectic during traffic hours, as every other city. With that being said, there is a specific intersection in the city that I am concerned about.

The intersection on Firestone Blvd and Lakewood Blvd is what I am most concernded about, considering I live so close to it. There are arrow traffic lights for the turning lanes coming from the East or West bound that indicate when the drivers are allowed to proceed at intersection followed by the red arrow indicating when it is no longer say to do so and must stop and wait for the next green light, which is great. Now coming from the North and West end, the arrow traffic lights also turn green indicating when it is safe to turn but then stays on the green light allowing drivers to turn up until the light turns yellow. This is where my concern for safety comes in. I have seen far too many accidents happen or almost hapen at this intersection due to the light.

I am asking if there is anything that can be done about this safety concern or if there is anyone else I can reach out to. I drive down those two cross streets just about every day and I fear every time I have to make that turn because many people risk not only their lives but the other individuals in the cars around them trying to catch the light. Many of the times I see people taking the red light just so they do not have to wait for the next one and it is very unsafe. I don't undertsand why one direction would have the turn on green arrow light only and the other direction allows you to turn up until the light turns yellow. I appreciate your time and hope to hear a response. If there is any further action I must take or if I need to speak with another party, please email me back at this email address.

Thank you so much and stay safe.

Best regards,
Ashley Edmondson

Hi City Council Members,
I am writing in support of measure #20, the cities response to recent illegal federal enforcement on the residents of our beautiful city. While the federal government is clearly not concerned with the long term effects of kidnapping & deporting people without due process I am PROUD that Downey is.

Immigrants are the backbone of our economy in California & in our beloved cities. They deserve to be treated fairly & justly & if we can help them in a dire time of need, we absolutely need to.

Thank you,
Kristine Rodriguez (Proud Downey business owner/ Wife & Mother)

Subject: Agenda Item No. 20 - Support for Recommendations Re: Agenda Item No. 20 -- Support of Recommendations
To the Honorable Downey City Councilmembers,
I have been a Downey resident since 2016, and a civil rights lawyer since 2003.

First, thank you for your leadership and courage in protecting your constituents, family and friends from vigilantism and from the federal government's efforts to take away life, liberty and property from our community members without due process of law.

Upon reading the recommendations listed in Agenda Item 20, my heart swelled with pride that our very own Downey could be the model for other local governments to show a strong ethical backbone, respect for the law, compassion, and just plain common sense, as well as a commitment to reforming immigration policy in a way that does not ruin our economy and devastate families.

Please agree to move forward with the excellent recommendations listed in Agenda Item 20! I do not pretend to understand the crushing pressure that each of you must be going through as public officials during this time, facing unprecedented challenges and gut -wrenching decisions as you try to guide us all to safety, and protect our collective future. Please know that the people are behind you, and we appreciate your courage.

Thank you, again, for your service and leadership.

Very truly yours,
Maria Hall
