Special Council Meeting September 17 Public Comment - Re: Mr. Trujillo Good afternoon City Council.
I thank the council for calling a meeting to censure Mr. Trujillo but this is not enough. He needs to resign. I ask that Mr.
Mario Trujillo resign after his terrible posts about someone getting assassination in front of so many people. Enough is enough!! This is the tipping point (or shall I say Turning Point). The city deserves better and an elected official should be held accountable to his or her actions. He may claim "freedom of speech", but he is posting inaccurate information about a person who was brutally assassinated for standing for that specifically, our constitutional freedoms. We don't want someone like him continuing to make very important decisions for our city when he lacks proper judgement, disrespects the community and his own colleges.
He has to learn how to respect people, and respect the differing views of the constituents he represents. He is not a patriot who loves this country and it's values it was founded on. repeatedly he only defends and yells out loud from his city council chair when it is something that is against his personal beliefs and lifestyles. At previous meetings he has called parents who want to protect their children as a "hate group". This has to stop.
On his way out, if he has some degree of sympathy and decency, he should apologize to Charlie Kirk's wife and children and the rest of the nation who is mourning!! Regardless of who was assassinated this is a very tragic event for anyone to go through, and a city leader should not be adding the to hateful rhetoric that has caused our nation to become so divided.
I ask that Mr. Trujillo resign.
I thank you for your time and service.

I'm writing to express my disappointment in holding a special meeting to censure council member Trujillo. He has been a huge part of the success in Downey. Always involved and loved by residents as well as business owners. It is a huge concern that people no longer have freedom of speech. With this in mind, you are diminishing Mario's tireless work and involvement in the city of Downey.
Respectfully,
Veronica Garcia, MFT

Good Afternoon,
I hate Mario Trujillo as much as the next guy, but censuring him because he used his right to free speech is absolutely absurd. I won't list the reasons justifying our righteous anger and our lack of sympathy for Charlie Kirk. We are allowed to feel however we want to feel and in this country, we are allowed to say whatever we want to say without being punished by our government. It's the American way. On top of everything, what Trujillo said was an INDIRECT comment that did not name Kirk by name or directly reference him. It's time we stop treating Kirk like a saint or political martyr or Jesus Christ himself because so far that has led us to prosecuting people for having certain feelings and thoughts. This is a slippery slope and we cannot set this precedent. Shame on all of you who decide to censure Trujillo. You all are enforcing the dictatorship that is the current presidential administration. If you cannot uphold the constitution, y'all should step down yourselves because you are betraying American values and your own constituents. You snowflakes.
P.S. As a victim of his rage, Trujillo has kicked me out of council chambers before. Trust me, he has said and done a lot worse. But THIS is where you draw the line? Y'all are out of your minds. - Alex Rocha

Dear Mayor Sosa and Downey City Council,
We would like to express our strong support for the Censuring, or outright removal, of Councilman Mario Trujillo. Over the past several years, Councilman Trujillo has displayed erratic and unhinged behavior towards other Councilmembers, and more importantly, towards members of the public, that is unbecoming of an elected representative.
Some examples of his behavior include interrupting members of the public while giving testimony, as well as calling people "stupid" and "idiots" among other derogatory names. During the recent ICE operations that took place in Downey, Mr. Trujillo encouraged a segment of the public to engage in destructive protests while enflaming the protesters with exaggerated and false information.
And most recently, Councilman Trujillo has shown extremely poor judgement by posting, and sharing posts, on social media that portray support, or outright celebrate, the assassination of Thought Leader and Evangelist Charlie Kirk.
These actions, as well as several others, show that Mr. Trujillo lacks good judgement, candor, and the proper character to represent the citizens of Downey.
Regards,
Ron and Jennifer Boren
