EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City of Dovvney'a | Love Downey Festival will return to Downtown Downey in September and will highlight the Chy's vibrant community spirk, rich history, and |omd talent. The event will feature |km music, food Uocks, a beer and wine garden, art exhibits, and family -friendly activities that showcase everything that Downey has to offer. The event will beheld nnSaturday, September 1Q.2026from 3:0Opm 8:00pm.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council:
Approve astreet closure for the | Love Downey Festival, which will occur onDowney Avenue and 3rdStreet between the following intersections:
° Downey Avenue from 2ndStreet io4thStreet
° 3nd StreeL@ LaReinaAvenue
• 3rd Street to end of south parking lot entrance to US Bank
BACKGROUND
Each year, the City ofDowney offers avariety ofspecial events for the community to enjoy. This year, the |Love Downey Fesdvu, will celebrate the heart and soul of our community while commemorating the Cby's 70dh Anniversary. The event will incorporate Oowney'a |oou| pride, rich ou|iure, and vibrant roots through entertadnment, interactive exhibit.s and family -friendly activities that highlight the City'e history, mi|mstones, and the people who have shaped its |oguoy over the post seven decades. Guests can enjoy a variety of food options, live eniertainment, and engaging activities designed for all ages to experience together. The | Love Downey Festival honors the Ciiy'o paot, celebrates its present, and looks ahead to an exciting future while bringing, residents, businesses, and visitors together inthe spirit ofcommunity, In addition, the festival will proudly partner with City departments as well as local community organizations to celebrate local pride. The Downey Police Department and Fire Departments will be on site with interactive displays and demonstrations offering visitors m chance to connect with first responders and learn more about their vital roles. Downey Nigh and Warren High have also been invited to provide musical entertainment for all to mrjoy.
Local groups such as the Downey Conservancy and Downey Arts Coalition will host engaging exhibits and activities that highlight the Oiy'arich heritage and creative spirit.
