PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY OF EAST PALO ALTO IN MEMORY OF AND RECOGNIZING JOHN GRANTANT
BOSTIC (JARIBU) FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY AS A
COUNCIL MEMBER AND MAYOR
WHEREAS, John Bostic was born in South Philadelphia Pennsylvania where he attended elementary, junior high school and graduated from South Philadelphia High School where he formed part of the track and field team, and WHEREAS, he went on to attend Foothill College, San Jose State University and graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Relations, and
WHEREAS, John Bostic served as Foothill College Financial Aid Director for 34 years and during this time he held various leadership positions in both the California Community College Student Financial Aid Administrators Association and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, and
WHEREAS, he was also a community activist and leader in East Palo Alto and the Mid-peninsula communities and under his leadership the Ethos Academy for the Development of Learning was established, and WHEREAS, he served as a Council Member, Vice Mayor and Mayor of the City of East Palo Alto during the late 1980's and early 1990's, and WHEREAS, in subsequent years he also served as a Trustee on the Ravenswood City Elementary School District and was involved in the National School Boards Association, and
WHEREAS, an event to celebrate the life of John Grantant Bostic (Jaribu) will be held on August 4th at 1:00 pm at the Hearthside Lounge at Foothill College,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT the City Council of East Palo Alto, hereby recognizes John Grantant Bostic (Jaribu) for his years of service to the City as a Council Member and Mayor
