PUBLIC HEARING
8. This was the scheduled date and time for a public hearing to consider approval of the 2024/2025 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER), approval of the CAPER itself, and authorization for staff to submit the report to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Mayor Carter opened the public hearing and invited anyone wishing to speak to come forward.
Seeing no one come forward, Mayor Carter closed the public hearing and returned the item to the City Council for comments.
Council member Crankshaw had questions regarding how projects are selected to receive funding. Ms.
Nava explained that the projects are reviewed, ranked, and then chosen based on those evaluations.
Council member Crankshaw requested information about the housing rehabilitation programs and inquired whether funding is available. Ms. Nava explained that funding has been allocated for the program.
Council member Camarena asked if there is a waiting list for the rehabilitation program and how long it is. She was informed that the list includes over ninety customers. She also inquired about the Catholic Charities Working Hands Program and asked how many homeless individuals had been assisted and moved off the streets. Ms. Nava explained that the funding used for this purpose comes from the Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) fund, and that two individuals have been helped through this funding.
Mayor Carter noted that many residents were excited about the completion of the curb and sidewalk improvements, emphasizing that the project is beneficial for the city as it enhances infrastructure and improves overall community accessibility.
