18A.1 Status and Update on State of the City.
State of the City will be next Thursday at 6:00 pm would hoping to have more of the school community partners and some of the businesses come on out and learn on what is going on at the City. It will be at the Grace T. Black Auditorium. Dinner will be provided.
Attended the grand opening of the Marisol Housing Development Homes. Was hoping to see pictures on social media so the community can go check it out.
City Manager Martinez – Will work with Housing staff to advertise the project.
Mayor Ancona – In the future can these take place at a more reasonable time.
City Manager Martinez – We will work with the Developers.
Mayor Ancona – Attended a conference in the inaugural cohort of local elected officials with the early learning network. Spoke about early childhood learning and programing.
Councilmember Martinez – Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Ruedas had brought an organization to the forefront and I think that partnership would be advantageous for the City. I think the direction would include meeting with this partnership.
Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Ruedas – Ms. Sedano has the contact information for this organization.
18B. Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Julia Ruedas
18C. Councilwoman Cortez
18D. Councilman Martin Herrera
18E. Councilwoman Martinez Muela
It has been an honor to represent this community for 12 ½ years. Have been through a lot, a lot of highs and a lot of lows. Spoke about the Public Works Director. On the Council Communications was requesting a conversation and was amenable to word change. Council Communications did not make it to the agenda.
Spoke about her concern about her Council Communications not making it to the agenda. .
18F. Councilwoman Puente
There may be some value if there is support of a presentation from the City Attorney’s Office as to what topics are appropriate for Council Communications.
Have had some amazing results from Council Communications in so far as presenting ideas.
Councilmember Herrera – Agreed with this assessment and wold like to note that City Council has addressed this issue several times in closed session and there was willful disobeying of the direction given.
City Council Meeting Minutes of September 17, 2024
11 Councilmember Martinez Muela – We have the opportunity to represent our community from the dais and have heard the advice from the City Attorney’s Office.
Have taken note to what the City Attorney has mentioned and have been clear about not wanting to disparage anyone.
Mayor Ancona – Tried reaching a compromise to avoid what went on at this meeting.
Councilmember Rojo = The City Council has a fiduciary duty to the City.
Mayor Ancona – The fact that the first phone call was made to another Councilmember and not Councilmember Martinez Muela or to notify the Mayor.
There is definitely some takeaways from this incident this evening and hope it is addressed and it never happens again.
