COMMUNICATIONS

IN RELATION TO THE

CITY OF ELK GROVE
JUNE 12, 2024 REGULAR

MEETING

2 • Disability Voices United
• The Alta California Regional Center
• The Department of Rehabilitation
As the parent of a disabled adult with both physical and neurodiverse disabilities, I have firsthand experience navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with advocating for individuals with disabilities. My daughter currently resides at Meristem, a program for disabled young adults, where she is learning life skills, attending college nearby, and working.

In 2022, she was selected as a State of California Disabled Youth Leadership Forum student representative, an experience from which we both learned and grown and she remains active as an alumni. Additionally, my mother has a low vision disability, which made awareness disability needs and accommodation a part of my life from the very beginning.

My advisory experience includes three years as a member of the Fremont Unified School District Disability Programs Committee and more than 20 years of experience serving on volunteer Boards. Throughout my life, I have been a caretaker and advocate for individuals with disabilities, driven by a passion for creating opportunities and enabling possibilities for differently abled individuals.

My experience as a Professor of Business Leadership, Ethics, Law and Policy and experience in policy, governance, and legal frameworks that can support the Committee’s goals. Disability advocacy is a role I have fulfilled and the vocation that energizes and inspires me. I would be honored to serve and learn on the City Disability Committee and contribute to Elk Grove’s efforts to remain a welcoming city for all.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my background, skills, and perspectives can benefit the City Disability Committee.

Sincerely,
Stefani Dawkins
