PUBLIC COMMENT
Lynn Wheat suggested wording in the Budget document refer to accomplishing projects for the people of Elk Grove as opposed to projects for the City Council, consider for graffiti abatement to utilize Measure E funds to paint murals or grow landscape coverage such as vines on walls, she questioned if it was appropriate to designate annual revenues from Measure E into a reserve account (stating her preference to program use of the funds each year for immediate services), and suggested lane striping be prioritized for roadways with crack seal markings ( that the crack seal markings can create glare and/or confuse marking of lanes ). Ms. Wheat wanted additional information on the performance of economic development programs, and did not believe economic development was a priority raised through the Measure E outreach.
Mayor Singh-Allen stated that Council Member Suen had requested moving the vote for the adoption of the budget to the regular meeting of June 26, 2024.
Council Member Spease inquired on projections that gas tax revenues were anticipated to increase, noting sources he had heard projected less dependence on gas with electric vehicles and alternatives for transportation.
Staff noted the projection was closer to flat regarding gas tax revenues, in the analysis other factors were incorporated (such as the state considering flat rate fees on electric vehicles to contribute to road maintenance funds), and as a percentage of vehicles in the state, electric vehicles still were only a small percentage of the total vehicles on the road.
Vice Mayor Brewer believed consideration should be given for graffiti abatement along train corridors throughout the City.
