RE: Agenda item 7.5
Mayor Singh-Allen & Councilmembers,
For over 35 years, the Sacramento Housing Alliance has advocated for funding and policies to support the development of safe, accessible, and affordable housing for low-income individuals and families; and for the development of permanent supportive housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. We work throughout the six-county Greater Sacramento Region to advance housing and land use policies that create healthy and equitable neighborhoods. Our members include community-based organizations, non-profit affordable housing developers, service providers, environmental and faith-based groups, and community advocates.

We are writing in support of the staff recommendation that the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute amended Letters of Intent with Mutual Housing California and Abode Communities to develop City-owned sites in Old Town and Sheldon Farms North to provide them with a necessary one-year extension to access and leverage the complex and competitive funding necessary to make these projects pencil.

These two proposed developments will deliver greatly needed affordable housing in Elk Grove. The proposed Old Town development by Mutual Housing will deliver 89 units of housing for seniors earning between 30% to 80% of area median income (AMI). The proposed Sheldon Farms North development will deliver 240 units of housing for individuals and families earning between 30% to 80% of AMI.

We look forward to continuing to work with you to deliver affordable housing for Elk Grove’s residents.

In community,
Jonathan Cook
Executive Director

Liz Irons
Volunteer commitments Past and Present:

E
lk Grove Art Committee and Commission- during the ten years I served I was instrumental in achieving Murals on utility boxes, and two bridges. Public Art enhances the quality of life, knowledge of artists and art genres, and reduces vandalism and saves funds used by Public Work Departments.

Projects that I participated in were District 56 Art, Animal Shelter Art, and Trash Sculpture at the Special Waste Center. I contributed to live musical shows. I was a performer in the sixties show. I participated in a selection of the sculpture choice in Old Town Plaza. My last project for the Art Commission was the selection of the sculpture, Radiant Eddy.

E
lk Grove Police Department Ambassador Program- I have been volunteering as an ambassador after attending Elk Grove Citizen Police Academy over ten years ago. I have been successful at recruiting other participants for the Citizen Academy and encourage support our fantastic Elk Grove Police Department.

E
lk Grove Animals Shelter- I began my volunteering with the shelter when the idea of a designated shelter was in exploratory planning. I am a Mentor to new volunteers. I have been extraordinarily successful in encouraging people to donate pet food to the Shelter Pet Pantry for owned pets. One shelter employee told me that after I mentioned the need for donated pet pantry food on social media over $1000 of donations based on my social media post.

MASH Volunteers- Mobile Animal Spay Hospital. I volunteered twice with MASH. Elk Grove Animals were eligible for the program based on a grant from Supervisor Pat Hume. My duties were to help with cats and surgical supplies.

Over three hundred cats and dogs received medical care in a three-day period. This program was for owned pets, completely free to the owners.

Elk Grove Anti Trash Community Volunteers- I am a core volunteer with Elk Grove Anti Trash Community Clean Ups that my son, David and Daughter-in- Law, Khaliah Irons founded. I was able to secure supplies to enable the volunteers to safely clean up the trash from Republic Waste Management. The group is a wonderful example how City of Elk Grove residents work together to achieve an excellent quality of life. I also participate with River City Water Way Alliance in Sacramento. RCWA receives sponsorship from Sacramento Creeks Council.

Ordained Elder Presbyterian Church USA- I am ordained as a PCUSA Elder since the late nineties. Elders are the board of directors for the church. I am not a Ruling Elder at this time but I inform my congregation, Elk Grove Presbyterian Church, about what is going on in the City of Elk Grove, and how the church can assist the community. I often lead the singing at my church.

ELK Grove WINS- Prior to the Covid pandemic my husband and I volunteered with HART, EG WINS. EG WINS gave a respite from the cold and a break from harsh living circumstances. I know that I encouraged people.

Sacramento County, voter Registration and Elections- I have served as an Inspector for several elections.
