Consideration of Travel Authorization for Mayor Bauters and Councilmember Martinez Recommendation
This item offers the City Council the opportunity to discuss and authorize City business related travel for Mayor Bauters and Councilmember Martinez consistent with the City Council’s adopted Travel Reimbursement Policy.
Background
At the June 7, 2022, regular City Council meeting Mayor Bauters and Councilmember Martinez each requested and received majority support for an item to be placed on a City Council Agenda for the Council to consider authorizing travel for these Council members to attend conferences related to City business.
Discussion
The City Council’s adopted Travel Reimbursement Policy is included as Attachment A. The policy provides for reimbursement of travel expenses related to City business in an amount “limited to the most economical method and the most usually traveled route.” Section B.2 of the policy provides that all out of state travel must be pre-authorized by the City Council. Mayor Bauters indicated that his possible travel was out of the country, and thus it would require Council authorization.
Fiscal Impact
The fiscal impact of this item will depend on the costs of travel for each Council member. The City’s adopted Budget includes funding for conference attendance and travel for members of the Council.

This item was added during the future scheduling discussion at the June 7, 2022, City Council meeting.

Conclusion
Staff requests the City Council discuss and provide direction with regard to the travel requests initiated by Mayor Bauters and Councilmember Martinez.
