BIKE TO WHEREVER DAY
Bike to Wherever Day is Back! Bike to Wherever Day is a regional Bay Area event that raises the visibility of bicycling and encourages more people to make healthy, active transportation choices. Representatives from the nine Bay Area counties collaborate to produce the event, with Bike East Bay and 511 Contra Costa coordinating efforts in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
Bike East Bay thanks our generous sponsors for making Bike to Wherever Day possible. In its third year with the new name, Bike to Wherever Day is now an even more inclusive and welcoming event that celebrates the continued importance of bicycling for everyday transportation and our health and wellbeing—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is both a chance for seasoned riders to celebrate their community, and a gateway that encourages new riders to take up regular biking.
In 2022, we saw great enthusiasm from volunteers, who participated in bag stuffing and assisted at energizer stations. We facilitated four major hubs at Berkeley City Hall, Lake Merritt in Oakland, Concord, and a special ride over the Richmond Bridge. Staff also coordinated special guests at each regional hub with elected officials, sponsors and transportation partners. Stations were spread throughout the county with support from cities, small businesses, and local bike clubs. BART stations continued to be a great place to capture those commuting.
This Final Report provides a snapshot of what we have achieved together this year on Bike to Wherever Day and throughout Bike Month. Thank you for being a part of Bike to Wherever Day!

CELEBRATION
All throughout the East Bay we celebrated biking all month long. Bike Month kicked off with a bang in Fremont at the Niles Canyon Stroll & Roll. Bike East Bay joined thousands of East Bay residents in celebrating the closure of Highway 84/Niles Canyon Road to vehicular traffic. We biked, walked, scooted, wheeled, chatted, and connected as a community on a beautiful, sunny day.
The following weekend Bike East Bay hosted its final ride in our Spring Ride Series. A challenging 76 mile ride from Pleasant Hill BART to Davis (with a return trip on Amtrak). This was the final training ride for our Climate Ride teams who supported Bike East Bay through the Green Fondo and Gravel Weekender events in May.
During the week right before Bike to Wherever Day, May 9th-13th, teachers, parents, and students, joined in the fun with 43 schools hosting Bike to Moon week activities, traveling a total of 310,374.25 “lunar miles.” In addition to the many amazing events throughout the region, Bike East Bay’s education program hosted a variety of classes from adult learn-to-ride classes to bike camping webinars. In May 2022 the bike education program saw:
7 Different Class Topics
Class Attendees 400
9 Cities Represented
