Why are you interested in serving on this Board, Commission or Committee? I would like to continue my service to the Emeryville community.
PLANNING COMMISSION APPLICANTS ONLY
Please provide a short (300 words or less) statement discussing your ideas and attitudes about planning in Emeryville. Please consider issues such as traffic, industrial and commercial development density, affordable housing, maintaining community diversity and jobs/housing balance.
There are direct ties between the amount of housing produced (and not produced) and equality, public safety, homelessness and quality of life for the entire community. I would like to be part of the process of repairing the harms that an artificially suppressed housing market has created in the Bay Area. I would like to continue to attract good jobs and businesses to Emeryville to support our local economy and City government. Finally, I would like to prioritize the ease and comfort of those using active transportation over single occupancy vehicles.
All of my priorities do not come at the expense of our current residents, or the diversity that we all value. There';s a reason that Emeryville has increased it';s population of Black residents while our surrounding communities have seen their populations of color pushed to the suburbs and exburbs -- because we build housing and maintain a city that is attractive to residents old and new. We need to keep up the momentum.
