Resolution Of The City Council Of The City Of Emeryville Supporting Removal Of Cuba From The U.S. State Sponsors Of Terrorism List
WHEREAS, Cuba was removed from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list by President Obama in 2015 after review by the State Department and intelligence community; and WHEREAS, in 2021, President Trump placed Cuba back on the list without citing any new facts; and
WHEREAS, the Trump Administration’s restrictions limit mutually beneficial dialogue and exchange between the U.S. and Cuba, harm small privately owned Cuban businesses, reduce the flow of money and goods between the two countries, and limit the delivery of humanitarian supplies and equipment; and
WHEREAS, on December 16, 2021, a letter signed by 114 members of Congress, including many California Representatives, requested that the policies of the United States with respect to Cuba be returned to those negotiated and implemented by President Obama; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Emeryville that it hereby supports the restoration of relations between the United States and Cuba to those put in place by President Obama to eventually end all U.S. policies and practices aimed at the economic isolation of Cuba; and, be it, further
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Emeryville that Cuba be removed from the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list.
