Guidelines for Bicycle Parking
in the Public Right of Way
Spacing Considerations
1. Maximize path of travel.
a. Note: Minimum path of travel per ADA is 48 inches.
2. Install bicycle racks parallel to face of curb whenever feasible to maximize width of path of travel.
3. Minimum vertical obstruction and distance to curbs: 24 inches.
4. Minimum distance to driveways: 48 inches.
5. Bicycle parking shall not be placed adjacent to white, yellow, or blue curbs.
6. Bicycle parking shall not obstruct transit stops.
