Resolution Of The City Council Of The City Of Emeryville Authorizing The City Manager To Approve The Use Of An Automated License Plate Reader System Within The City
WHEREAS, the Police Department would like to utilize fixed Automated License Plate Reader cameras in Emeryville as an investigative and prevention system; and WHEREAS, the ALPR system is an investigative tool that allows authorized police personnel to search for suspect vehicles based on certain criteria; and WHEREAS, ALPRs have the potential to greatly assist the Department in preventing and solving crimes in Emeryville; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department believes that an ALPR system meeting Emeryville’s needs exists through Flock Safety cameras which have the level of services, security and privacy support that would serve Emeryville well; and WHEREAS, the data captured by ALPRs would be owned by the Emeryville Police Department and only accessed by authorized EPD personnel following department policy; and
WHEREAS, the Department is recommending adding ALPR cameras in major throughfares and entry/exit points in the City that have been identified to further assist in keeping Emeryville safe; and now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Emeryville to authorize the City Manager to approve the use of an Automatic License Plate Reader System in the City and, be it further
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Emeryville that Council selects to move ahead with the (# of cameras option).
