Davenport Minipark Cost Overages
___________________________________________________________________ TO: Pedro Jimenez
FROM: Dennis Sheil, Construction Manager
DATE: August 16, 2023
SUBJECT: Davenport Minipark Cost Overages ___________________________________________________________________________ ___ Pedro, as we discussed in our telephone conversation, there were some additional costs associated with the work at Davenport Minipark. Here is a recap of those costs. • Bid Item 3 – Remove Fence, Footings, and Offhaul +28% (Approved and paid in Pay App No. 2): Prior to starting the project a vehicle hit and damaged a section of fencing that was not intended to be replaced.

There was additional work to remove the damaged fencing and footings. • Bid Item 5 – Excavate and Offhaul Soil +11% (Approved and paid in Pay App No. 2): After the area was surveyed, it was determined that the area around the play equipment consisted of more square footage than indicated in the Contract documents. Due to potential safety issues it was determined that it was better to use the surveyed dimensions than make a smaller fall-zone. As a result, there was additional excavation and offhaul, additional base rock, slightly more fall zone material, and slightly less decomposed granite.
• Bid Item 8 – Concrete Curb Wall at Walk and Fence 0%: This work was included in Bid Item 10, which has a lower cost per linear foot than this bid item.
• Bid Item 10 – Concrete Curb Band at Play and Picnic Area +24% (Approved and paid in Pay App No. 3): As noted above, this item includes the work noted in Bid Item 8. • Bid Item 13 – Base Rock 4-Inch Layer of Class II Aggregate +8%: See Bid Item 5 above for explanation. • Bid Item 14 – Resilient Surfacing Poured in Place +8% (Approved and paid in Pay App No. 3): See Bid Item 5 above for explanation.
• Bid Item 15 – Resilient Surfacing Installation +8% (Approved and paid in Pay App No. 3): See Bid Item 5 above for explanation.
• Bid Item 16 – Stabilized DG at Play and Picnic Areas -2%: See Bid Item 5 above for explanation. • Bid item 18 – 4-Foot Chain Link Fence to Match Existing + 25% (Approved and paid in Pay App No. 3): As noted above in Bid Item 3, after the project was bid, a vehicle hit and damaged a portion of the existing DocuSign Envelope ID: 846BB2B5-E166-423E-B970-49EBD302A16E fencing that was intended to remain. It was requested that the damaged fencing be added to the Contract work.
• Bid Item 19 – Chain Link Gate + 50%: The Schedule of Values in the bid documents lists one gate. There are three gates installed as required. Since the price they bid is for a double-gate, they gave us a 50% discount from the bid item price since the other was a single gate. • Change Order No. 01 – Embedment for Picnic Tables: The picnic tables specified in the Contract documents must be embedded in concrete, which differs from what is shown on the drawings. • Change Order No. 02 – Change Fence Material to Plastic Coated: Section 02830-1.3D of the specifications states in bold letters that vinyl coated fencing is not part of this project. The decision was made to have the new fencing be vinyl coated to match the existing fence. This cost is for the contract work as well as the fencing added due to the vehicle damaged.
• Change Order No. 03 – Add for Alphatic Resin: There are two resins that can be used with the SpectroTurf resilient surfacing. When the submittal came in for review, it was discovered that the Armatic resin specified in the Contract documents is not appropriate for exterior use. The resin necessary for outdoor use was slightly more expensive.
