Re: Support for the City of Emeryville’s Application to Alameda CTC’s 2022 Comprehensive Investment Plan
Dear Mr. Nguyen:
This purpose ofthisletter isto demonstrate the Emeryville Parks and Recreation Committee’ssupport of Emeryville's application to the Alameda County Transportation Commission's (ACTC) 2022 Comprehensive Investment Plan. Transit is a key part of Emeryville's strategy of accommodating growth by providing alternatives to autos. I am excited by the wide range of projects Emeryville is proposing to include in the current call for the county and regional transportation plans including:
• 40th Street Bus Hub Improvements – for AC Transit and Emery Go-Round stops • Emery Go-Round Operations – for general benefit trips to and from Emeryville and surrounding communities
• Doyle Street Urban Greening Project – for designated bike-ped only lanes.
I particularly endorse the Doyle Street Urban Greening Project as it is adjacent to the Doyle Hollis Park, and helps to improve both safety and access for people accessing the park by foot or bicycle.
Emery Go-Round Operations provide the only public transit access to the Emeryville peninsula, home of Emeryville Marina Park, Davenport Mini Park, Eastshore State Park, Shorebird Park, and the Bay Trail. The Emery Go-Round service operates at a high level of efficiency with an annual ridership of just over 1.3 million passenger boardings and an average cost per passenger boarding at under $2.00 (pre-COVID levels). The service is primarily funded by Emeryville property owners through a Property and Business Improvement District (PBID), an assessment district within the City of Emeryville. The funding sought is for trips which originate and end outside of Emeryville. The Emery Go-Round provides the only public transit connection from MacArthur BART in Oakland, to the Emeryville peninsula.
The 40th Street Bus Hub Improvements will provide safe access and improved amenities for AC Transit and Emery Go-Round riders, who can board at this location and then access the aforementioned parks on the Emeryville peninsula, as well as Doyle Hollis Park via the Emery Go-Round.
I am delighted to see regional, state and federal dollars used to improve multi-modal access to parks and recreation opportunities in the City of Emeryville.
Sincerely,
Sasheen Andregg, Chair
Parks and Recreation Committee
City of Emeryville
