Recommendation:
Conduct Interviews of Recreation Commission applicants and if Council agrees, to make appointments for the three (3) expiring seats on the Recreation Commission.
Background and Discussion:
As per Escalon Municipal Code Section 2.17.020, the Recreation Commission consists of five members.
All members must be registered voters in San Joaquin County and reside within the Escalon Unified School District. At least three members are required to live within the Escalon city limits. Currently, one sitting member resides outside the city limits. Members are appointed by the City Council and serve without compensation.
Three (3) Escalon recreation Commission terms are set to expire in November 2024. On November 4, 2024, the City Council, by motion, set a date and time to conduct interviews for the available Recreation Commission vacancies.
The application period for these vacancies commenced September 25, 2024 and closed October 24, 2024. The commission vacancy advertisement appeared in the Escalon Times on September 25, 2024.
The vacancy notice and application was published on the City’s website and Facebook weekly during the application period. A total of 1,785 registered users on the Recreation registration website were emailed about the vacancy three times: on September 25, 2024, October 16, 2024, and October 22, 2024.
During this application period, the City received four (4) applications for the Recreation Commission.

CITY SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR OPENINGS ON
RECREATION COMMISSION
The Escalon City Council is now accepting applications for:
Recreation Commission (3 Full Terms Available – Expiring 11/2027) The Recreation Commission meets once a month on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Recreation Commissioners must be registered voters in San Joaquin County and must reside within the Escalon Unified School District, with no less than three members residing within Escalon city limits. Some duties of the Recreation Commission include:
• Provide input on the recreation department regarding recreation activities, sports programs, and facilities that will help meet the needs of the community. • Provide advice and community perspectives regarding recreation services and programming for the residents, promote and stimulate public interest. • Gather community opinions, needs and perceptions to advise the recreation department.
Interested citizens may download an application packet at www.cityofescalon.org or email [email protected] to request a packet be emailed. All applications must be submitted by one of the following methods no later than October 24, 2024 by 5:00 p.m.:
