SUBJECT: Discuss/consider the Residents’ Petition submitted per Town Code regarding Ordinance Nos. 870 and 871, and direct staff as appropriate
RECOMMENDATION
Discuss/consider the petition and direct staff as appropriate.
BACKGROUND
Pursuant to Fairfax Municipal Code Section 2.08.090 (C), if the Council is presented with a petition signed by 25 Fairfax residents urging consideration of an issue, the issue shall be placed on the Council’s agenda for discussion.
DISCUSSION
On December 15, 2022, a residents’ petition was submitted to the Town for the Council’s consideration. The petition has 30 signatures, which meets the 25-signature threshold, and is on file with the Town Clerk. The petition states:
“We are requesting the following items be placed on the agenda at the next Town Council meeting on January 10, 2023 to discuss: Ordinance No. 871 An Ordinance of the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax Amending Chapter 5.55 ‘Mandatory Mediation for Rental Increases’ of Title 5 of the Fairfax Town Code. Ordinance No. 870 An Ordinance of the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax Amending Chapter 5.54 ‘Just Cause Evictions’ of the Fairfax Town Code.”
The petitioners will be at the meeting to make a brief presentation. After the presentation and taking public comment, the Council may discuss the matter and direct staff as needed.
