SUBJECT: Adopt a Resolution Continuing Expenditures and Revenues in Accordance with the FY 2022-23 Town Budget and Continuing the FY 2023-24 Town Budget Adoption

RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution continuing expenditures and revenues in accordance with the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Town Budget and continuing the Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget adoption.
DISCUSSION
This action allows the Town to continue its operations after the start of the new fiscal year (July 1, 2023) without an approved FY 2023-24 budget. While the Town would prefer to adopt its annual budget prior to the start of the new fiscal year, the Town typically adopts a resolution to allow the Town to continue its operations until the new budget is adopted.
On May 19, 2023, the Council held a workshop on the proposed FY2023-24 operating and capital budget. Later this evening, the Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed FY2023-4 budget.
Staff anticipates the Council will consider the adoption of the FY2023-24 budget at its regular meeting on July 12, 2023.

RESOLUTION 23-__
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF FAIRFAX
CONTINUING EXPENDITURES AND REVENUES IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE FISCAL YEAR 2022-23 TOWN BUDGET AND
CONTINUING THE FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024 BUDGET ADOPTION
WHEREAS, the Town of Fairfax operates on a July 1st to June 30th Fiscal Year; and
WHEREAS, it is prudent for the Town Council to adopt a budget by July 1st to authorize expenditures for the ensuing year; and
WHEREAS, the Town staff is preparing a draft budget for Fiscal Year 2023- 2024 and the Town Council held a budget workshop on May 19, 2023, and held a public hearing for the budget on June 7, 2023, to provide input into the final budget document;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town of Fairfax hereby authorizes expenditures to be charged and revenues to be credited to Fiscal Year 2022-2023, as appropriate, until such time that the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget is adopted;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Town staff is hereby authorized to continue to pay normal operating expenditures from each Town fund as appropriate.
The foregoing Resolution was duly passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax held in said Town on the 7th day of June 2023 by the following vote, to wit:
