DISCUSSION
Pursuant to Fairfax Municipal Code Section 2.08.090 (C), if the Council is presented with a petition signed by 25 Fairfax residents urging consideration of an issue, the issue shall be placed on the Council’s agenda for discussion.

On August 24, 2023, a residents’ petition was submitted to the Town for the Council’s consideration.

The petition has 25 signatures of Fairfax residents, which meets the 25-signature threshold, and is on file with the Town Clerk. The petition states:
“We are requesting the following items be placed on the agenda at the next Town Council meeting. 1. We request to have town staff tally the to-date costs of implementing the rent control ordinances 870 and 871. 2. We request to have town staff estimate the future costs of implementing the rent control ordinances 870 and 871. 3. We request that aggregate costs to date and future estimated costs be presented for public discussion at this meeting. These include proposed costs for Town Staff, Town Attorney, hired consultants, vendors, facilitators, and associated implementation costs such as a data base of registered units etc. Additionally, the costs and fees associated with registering the units of housing providers, petitioning the 'rent board' or moderators for resolving tenant-housing providers issues.” The petitioners will be at the meeting to make a brief presentation of 3 to 5 minutes. After the presentation and taking public comment, the Council may discuss the matter and direct staff if the Council would like to prepare a further report, or as needed.
