AGENDA ITEM #21

TOWN OF FAIRFAX PROCLAMATION
Recognizing the Observance of Veterans Day on November 11, 2023 WHEREAS, the United States of America has a long and distinguished history of military service, with millions of brave men and women having answered the call to serve our great nation throughout its history; and
WHEREAS, on Veterans Day, we pause to honor and express our profound gratitude to these veterans, recognizing their unwavering dedication, sacrifice, and valor in the defense of freedom and democracy; and
WHEREAS, Veterans Day holds a special place in our hearts, as it commemorates the armistice that ended World War I, the "war to end all wars," on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, symbolizing the hope for lasting peace; and
WHEREAS, our veterans, from the Greatest Generation to the heroes of the present day, have displayed unparalleled courage, resilience, and selflessness in service to our nation, and they continue to make immeasurable contributions as leaders, mentors, and exemplary citizens; and WHEREAS, we must always remember the sacrifices made by our veterans, as well as the sacrifices made by their families, in the pursuit of liberty, security, and the ideals upon which our nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, our veterans are represented in every facet of society. Many used what they learned in the military to benefit us all as civilians. A significant number of veterans, who served with honor, now find themselves battling homelessness, a condition that we must address with compassion and resolve; and WHEREAS, it is our solemn duty to provide steady support, opportunities, and care for our veterans as they transition to civilian life, ensuring they have access to quality healthcare, education, employment, and a strong social support system; and
WHEREAS, Veterans Day is a time to unite in a shared commitment to uphold the principles of freedom, democracy, and equality, and to express our deep appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of those who have worn the uniform;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED that the Town of Fairfax recognizes the observance of Veterans Day on November 11, 2023, and calls upon our community to join in observing this day, showing respect and gratitude to our veterans.

Signed this 1st day of November 2023,
