TOWN OF FAIRFAX PROCLAMATION
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month,
May 2024
WHEREAS, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is observed nationally during the month of May to celebrate the contributions and influences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States; and WHEREAS, the Town of Fairfax recognizes the importance of honoring the rich heritage and significant contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in our community, who are an integral part of our town’s social, economic, and cultural fabric; and
WHEREAS, the theme for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2024, "Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration," highlights the dynamic leadership and community spirit exhibited by AAPI individuals, which enrich our collective American experience; and
WHEREAS, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Fairfax, and across the nation, have enriched our society through advancements in education, economics, science, government, military service, arts, and technology; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Fairfax embraces the diversity brought forth by the AAPI community, enhancing our understanding and appreciation of various cultures, languages, and customs; and WHEREAS, it is essential to advocate for the inclusion and advancement of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders as leaders in all sectors of society to facilitate collaboration and promote cultural understanding and appreciation; and
WHEREAS, during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we acknowledge the perseverance of AAPI individuals who overcome challenges, ranging from civil rights inequalities to modern issues of discrimination and bias in society; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Fairfax is committed to collaboration that bridges diversities and strengthens our community in celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, encouraging educational and historical activities that will help residents gain a deeper appreciation and respect for AAPI cultures; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Town Council of Fairfax, California, does hereby proclaim May 2024 as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in Fairfax and calls upon the residents of our town to reflect on the enduring legacy of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and to celebrate the significant role of these communities in our nation's past, present, and future.
