Dear Council Members:

I am writing to convey my appreciation for postponing the Israel/Hamas Conflict Resolution and I strongly urge you to completely take it off the table.

Myself and everyone I know in the Jewish community wish that the current war against Hamas, a necessary response to the horrors of October 7th, would never have had to happen. Judaism honors and protects all life and we are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of civilian life.

But there are individuals and organizations who, unfortunately, are happy about the loss of life. We have seen them support, justify, or even celebrate the horrors of October 7th and even today, they refuse to condemn it.

These individuals/organizations have been at the forefront of pushing for a ceasefire - not out of love for the people of Gaza, but to use their suffering to justify hatred, violence, and murder of Jews.

We have seen the results from other town council resolution meetings; they included open Jew hatred, demonizing rhetoric, and delegitimization of Israel (rhetoric which only encourages more violence instead of actually bringing peace), and we are concerned that with the global rise of antisemitism this will invite such divisiveness and Jew hatred to our town.

We urge you to completely remove the resolution from the agenda and instead focus on keeping peaceful discourse and inclusivity in our town,
Sincerely,
Abra

There is nothing more that I would like to see than the war ending, hostages returned, and a two state solution that brings peace and dignity to both people. A one-sided call for a ceasefire does little to further this desired outcome that most people genuinely want. In addition it is imperative that town councils prioritize initiatives that positively impact town residents rather than virtue signaling or, worse, initiatives that could actually cause real harm.

I urge you to completely remove the resolution from the agenda and instead focus on keeping peaceful discourse and inclusivity in our town,

Resolution Re Israel/Hamas Conflict

To:Fairfax Town Council <[email protected]> Cc:Heather Abrams <[email protected]>
Dear Council Members,
I am writing to express my gratitude for the decision to postpone the Israel/Hamas Conflict Resolution, and I strongly urge you to withdraw it entirely from consideration.

Myself and others in the Jewish community wish that the current conflict with Hamas, which arose in response to the events of October 7th, could have been avoided. Judaism values and protects all life, and we are deeply saddened by the loss of civilian lives in this conflict.

Unfortunately, there are individuals and groups who seem indifferent or even pleased by the loss of life. Some have gone as far as to support, justify, or celebrate the events of October 7th.

These individuals and groups are advocating for a ceasefire not out of genuine concern for the people affected but to further their agendas of hatred, violence, and anti-Semitism.

We have witnessed the outcome of similar resolutions in other towns, which have often led to expressions of anti-Semitic sentiment, demonization of Israel, and the undermining of Israel's legitimacy. Such rhetoric fosters divisiveness and hatred rather than promoting peace and understanding.

We respectfully request that the resolution be completely removed from the agenda. Instead, we encourage a focus on fostering peaceful dialogue and inclusivity in our community.

Sincerely,
Eyal Blum and family

To whom it may concern. My name is Gabriel Ross and I'm a resident of San Anselmo. This matter was brought to my attention by Rabbi Berkowitz of West Marin Chabad. I have copied a letter he shared with me containing sentiments I agree with whole heartedly. I do not believe it is the business of local city governments to judge international affairs such as this. While there may be extreme circumstances in which such a thing would be warranted, I don't believe this is such a circumstance. There are many other humanitarian crises throughout the world which do not raise the attention this one does. I believe this illuminates the real issue, which is ultimately resentment or resistance to the notion of the existence of Israel in the first place which is what this is really about. I believe these resolutions are not simply about cessation of hostilities but rather about impugning Israel's right to exist or to take normal actions to defend itself against overt aggression. I support Israel's rigit to fight this war that it did not start. I support israel's right to exist. And the humanitarian crisis, albeit terrible, is not particularly greater than many other humanitarian crises that exist around the world and do not raise the concern of local town councils in the USA.

Town Resolution related to conflict in the Middle East

To:Fairfax Town Council <[email protected]> Cc:Heather Abrams <[email protected]>
Dear Town Council,
I have just learned that certain groups are pressing for a local resolution supporting a ceasefire in the Middle East conflict. We all support peace, but not at any price. Some of these groups at the forefront of ceasefire calls are not peace-loving; rather they are vehemently anti-Zionist and encouraged by Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.

As a Jewish resident of Fairfax alarmed by the recent rise in antisemitism across our nation and the world, I strongly urge you to not get involved in international politics. It’s so complicated, and would just serve to further divide our sweet local community here, already fractured by other recent polarizing issues, such as rent control. If you feel compelled to make some kind of statement, please make it supportive of peace for all. But I would much prefer our Town Council focus on initiatives that build community, mutual understanding and respect here in Fairfax, already a tall order.

Sincerely,
Judy Berger

To:Fairfax Town Council <[email protected]> I am hoping you will consider a resolution pertaining to the war between Israel and Hamas that calls for peace and safety for all people rather than a ceasefire.  I believe that those who only want a ceasefire have a very one-sided and anti-Israel and anti-Jewish opinion.  I believe in the value of all people, of all life, and am horrified by the numbers of people on both sides of that war who have lost their lives. I want us, here in Marin, to display that we also value all life.  I do not live in Fairfax; I live in San Anselmo. I hope that the town council of Fairfax shows the towns of Marin and of all California that we cherish all fellow human beings, regardless of where they live or where they are from.

Thank you for your consideration,

Dear Council Members:

Thank you for postponing the Israel/Hamas Conflict Resolution.  I strongly urge you to completely take it off the table as written.

The current conflict in Gaza was immediately PRECEDED by the violent murder of over 1000 peaceloving people as a peace-themed festival.  There was rape, torture, and heinous actions that are difficult to even think about.  130 are still held hostage.  Hamas has pledged to continue such attacks until Israel is destroyed.  That is the reason that Israel is seeking to destroy Hamas.

The immediate release of the hostages would create massive internal and external pressure upon Israel to cease operations in Gaza.

If the Fairfax Town Council wants to see the most rapid path to ceasefire and peace in Gaza, it should be calling for the immediate release of the hostages.

I would be happy to talk to any council member about this issue if desired.

Sincerely,
Nathaniel Lepp

I would like to add further to my email as this is extremely distressing for most of the Jewish community in Marin.

I understand that there are certain people who are Jewish and Marin county who might agree with this resolution… But they do not represent the majority of the Jewish community at all. It’s become so easy to be manipulated by the current media and we can’t save every person at this point.

However, it is a general and clear rule that local council members do not get involved in foreign policy.

The people who supposed to be Pro-Palestinian have genuinely nothing to do with anyone in Gaza or any support to the Palestinians.  Most all Israelis support the peoplehood of the Palestinians-2 million of whom live freely in Israel with equal rights. This is a disguise of a “peace resolution” is pro-Hamas and with antisemitic undertones because it has basic angle is that it is against a war it claims Israel is perpetuating, not to mention how completely DESPERATE we are to get our families home who are held hostage for over 208 days, my cousin Sahar Baruch’s body included.

Now, the political manipulation is to include local council members to file resolutions that Mention the war and a call for a ceasefire also referenced as ”peace” and what it does is it generates more unwanted antisemitism because people turn to Jews who support Israel’s right to exist and view us as war mongers. We are all experiencing this in real time, it’s not a theory. I have plenty of examples and hundreds more than my friends can share.

Please understand that the pro-Israel community is desperate for peace. We did not start this war, Hamas did! They REJECT a ceasefire deal time and again. They are raping our women in captivity. They are abusing our families, starving them, they have no medicines or fresh air. The horror stories of those who have been rescued are unimaginable. We all pray day and night for this war we didn’t start to end.

We want our hostages home and the real perpetrators Hamas to never be able to attempt to genocide our people again.

Please do whatever is needed to not bring a resolution to Marin which will spread more antisemitism - even if a few nice words are in it like “peace”. Please encourage your colleagues to as well. Please pray for our hostages to be brought home to us.

Kind wishes and gratitude,
Rayah Levy

I am writing to convey my STRONG opposition to the Israel/Hamas conflict being addressed in the Town Council.

Israel/Hamas agenda items have resulted in hostile, extremely divisive events, leaving a visceral wake of negativity across the community including increased hate acts, defacement of the town, hostile players being bussed into towns (many often paid to speak), and a wildly intensified breeding ground for antisemitism. Also, while there are some Jews who are pushing for these talks, please know they do NOT represent the majority of us. We are a mostly united group in Marin who is extremely afraid of living in Marin and raising our children here. I have 2 small children and have lived in Marin for 14 years, my day to day is anxious now because of the exact issue.

During a time of heightened tensions everywhere, I am IMPLORING you as a town council member to please focus on building community in Fairfax instead. The town sits on an opportunity to  be supportive to ALL and make ALL feel safe and welcomed.

Truly and Sincerely,

I lived in Fairfax for the past 21 years prior to recently moving to Greenbrae. I was surprised and disappointed that the Town Council was considering a Gaza ceasefire resolution. I am sharing words from a Rabbi who lives in Marin which very well express my feelings. I urge you to not consider passing this harmful and misleading resolution.

Below are the comments I intended to share with you during public comment at tonight's meeting.

Unfortunately, I didn't get in the long line in time for the 30 min cutoff.

Heather, please note: we are still waiting for The Town's response to the lack of nuisance ordinance enforcement.

Good Evening,
The Spruce Road Coalition was just informed by Fairfax Lumber via email on Monday that they intend to start the approved fence project by September 28, the one year deadline for construction authorized by the Planning Commission permit. This is the FIRST email response I’ve gotten from Augie Venezia in 18 months. While we are cautiously optimistic that Augie will keep his commitment - we remain a bit skeptical, for very good reason. Regardless, we would like to thank councilmembers Cutrano, Ackerman, and Hellman for recently reaching out to Fairfax Lumber. We HOPE that the fence will be complete by September.

Councilmembers Ackerman and Cutrano attended the FIRST FORMAL subcommittee meeting two weeks ago. We plan to meet again at the end of the month. Due to Augie’s recent correspondence, we invited him to the next meeting in late May. We hope he will consider it.

As a reminder, we have asked (multiple times now) for something IN WRITING from the Town as to the reasoning why the Town Nuisance Ordinances have not been enforced. Even though there appears to be some efforts by Fairfax Lumber, we still insist on the Town's position in writing. When can we expect this?
Spruce Road Coalition will return to Council over the coming months to keep you all up-to-date on progress toward our community goal of a safe and healthful neighborhood.

Thank you.

Dear Council Members:

I am writing to convey my dismay about the Israel/Hamas Conflict being a potential agenda item for this little town. and I strongly urge you to completely take it off the table.

I lived here in this town and community for over 20 years. Unlike most people who claim to know what they are talking about when it comes to this topic, I actually do know first hand. I refrain from discussing my past with anyone, but when this comes to my little town, is where i draw the line. I was a soldier in the IDF and was in battle with these Hamas terrorist savages for years. Seen what these people are capable of doing. So i suggest, that before this council start discussing agenda items they know nothing about on a country/region that is so remote, focus your energy and time on the issues that our town has like our teenagers addiction to Alcohol and drugs for example (i have 2 teens in School. I hear about it all the time) and many other local social issues that affect our community. But stay away from topics you know nothing about.

Regards,
a concerned community member. --
