SUBJECT Adopt a Resolution Authorizing the Display of Veteran’s Day Banners during the Month of November 2024; Authorize Use of Staff Time to Place Banners
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a Resolution authorizing the display of Veterans Day banners during the month of November 2024 and authorize the use of staff time to place the banners.
BACKGROUND
In June 2023, Mayor Cutrano proposed honoring Veterans Day by displaying Veteran’s Day inspired banners on lamp posts in the downtown area during November. This year, Mayor Coler requested the Veterans Day banners be displayed.
The Town has a flag policy that ensures Council control over flag displays and permits commemorative flags to be flown only when authorized by the Town Council.
DISCUSSION
Staff purchased the banners, depicted to the right, last year and plan to re-use the banners. The banners will be placed on 30 lamp posts located along Bolinas Road, Broadway, and Center Blvd. with the use of San Anselmo’s bucket truck.
FISCAL IMPACT
There are 30 flag posts available in downtown Fairfax. It requires two Public Works crew members a total of four hours each to hang all the flags. The fully loaded salary and benefit rate is $71.12 for employee #1 and $49.99
for employee #2. The cost of the Public Works crew to hang 30 flags on the lamp post in the downtown corridor will be $485.00.

A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF FAIRFAX AUTHORIZING THE DISPLAY OF VETERANS’ DAY BANNERS DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2024; AUTHORIZE USE OF STAFF TIME TO PLACE BANNERS WHEREAS, the Mayor requested the display of Veterans’ Day inspired banners in honor of veterans during the month of November 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Council authorizes the use of Town staff time and funding for this project; and WHEREAS, this display will honor veterans for service, California; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax hereby authorizes the display of Veterans’ Day banners during the month of November 2024 and authorizes the use of staff time to place the banners.
The foregoing resolution was duly passed and adopted at a special meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax on the 16th day of October 2024, by the following vote to wit:
