PRESENTATION ITEM: AGEISM AWARENESS
TOWN OF FAIRFAX PROCLAMATION
Ageism Awareness Day
WHEREAS, Ageism refers to the stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) toward others based on age; and WHEREAS, there are an estimated 2,094 older adults in the Town of Fairfax older than age 60 who are impacted by ageism; and
WHEREAS, ageism toward older adults affects their health and longevity, financial well-being and the economy of Town of Fairfax and
WHEREAS, preventing ageism in education, employment, housing, culture, and healthcare will benefit all; and
WHEREAS, recognizing that it is up to all of us to ensure that older adults are respected and portrayed as capable, competent, effective, and valued in all areas of society; and WHEREAS, ageism awareness and preventing ageism is beneficial to all citizens of Fairfax by improving quality of life within the Town of Fairfax,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, that the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax, do hereby proclaim October 9th, 2024, as Ageism Awareness Day in the Town of Fairfax, CA.
