To Mayor Blash, Vice Mayor Hellman and Council Member Coler:

As you take your short victory lap around Town Hall, I want you to realize that half the town is in mourning over the division you have created among the people in Fairfax. You do not seem to understand that you were elected to represent ALL of the voters in Fairfax.

How can you claim to be promoters of low-income housing? In Marin County, the baseline income for low-income housing eligibility for a single person is $ 108,300/yr. to rent. Who earns that? Certainly not the workforce you are claiming to build housing for, and certainly not the nurses who work at Kaiser Hospital who average a salary of about $60,000 a year.

You are promoting the construction of high income housing in Fairfax and calling it low income housing. Who are you working for? Certainly not the people of Fairfax who will have to foot the property tax bill for new water/plumbing/sewer/road infrastructure in order to accommodate these proposed housing monstrosities. Your faulty decisions will increase traffic congestion and negatively affect emergency evacuation routes in a deadly way. How does this support Fairfax? Marin IJ political columnist, Dick Spotswood, identified the problem. He wrote that you had a chance to demonstrate fair play to Fairfax voters when the mayor and vice mayor were being appointed in 2025. You chose yourselves above experienced leaders, Frank Egger and Mike Ghiringhelli, who were overwhelmingly elected by popular vote in the 2024 election. This political suicide on your part directly contributed to the many reasons why Fairfax residents organized to recall Mayor Blash and Vice Mayor Hellman in 2025. You don’t play fair.

Narcissism comes in all forms, including political narcissism. Your personal agendas and divisiveness have poisoned our town. Your decisions reflect poor governance, and will scar Fairfax for many years.

You will not be remembered fondly.

You owe a deep apology to our town.

Teliha Draheim
Fairfax resident, 30 years
